MLA Jr Harvester: Kylei Lampson

Kylei Lampson of South Addison was 5 years old when she started going out lobstering with her grandfather, Ernie Cirone.

Kylei was a quick learner. By the time she was 7 she was setting her own traps with her grandfather about his boat FV Cirone Tradition. Ernie, whose nickname is Papa, taught Kylei how to fish and, more importantly, how to stay safe while fishing.

“Papa showed me all the importance of fishing traps, driving the boat, safety and

the love for the ocean,” Kylei said. Ernie is still lobstering but Kylei is now on her own.

“I’m sixteen and I am fishing the same waters in South Addison but in my own boat, 22-foot Papa’s Shadow,” she said.

She’s looking forward to getting back to lobstering when school’s out. “I like being outside on the water, making my own money and learning the family tradition,” Kylei said. “I don’t really like working with the bait and the empty traps!”
