Waldoboro artist Jean Kigel knows the coast. From her home on Muscongus Bay she has spent years observing the frequently changing Maine seascape as well as elements of the landscape around her. Kigel specializes in Asian brush painting and Japanese fish prints, known as Gyotaku prints. Her watercolor paintings, however, burst with vibrant color. Whether it’s the Maine lobster or a new visitor to the Gulf of Maine, the common seahorse, Kigel captures the movement and vitality of the sea in her paintings. She has exhibited at the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design, the National Building Museum in Washington, D.C, Bowdoin College, Archipelago Gallery in Rockland, The Round Top Center for the Arts in Damariscotta, the Chocolate Church in Bath, Sea Studio Gallery in Tenants Harbor, Saltwater Gallery in Pemaquid Point, the Maine Art Gallery in Wiscasset, and Hunter Gallery of Fine Arts in Grafton, VT. The full scope of her work may be seen HERE.
