As we gather for holidays, all of us at the Maine Lobster Community Alliance (MLCA) and our partners at the Maine Lobstermen’s Association (MLA) want to extend our heartfelt appreciation to the volunteers, donors, and supporters who make our work possible. This year offered so many reminders of the remarkable people who stand behind Maine’s lobstering communities.

We are especially grateful to everyone who helped bring our first Tides and Traditions event to life in Stonington last summer, including Jenni Steele and Brian and Alison Billings. Your energy and commitment set a high bar for what community celebration can look like, and we are already excited about what comes next.
The team behind Music, Masts and Lobster Traps also deserves credit, notably Jesse Roche and Deborah Hayes. Their countless hours of effort are the reason this event will shine again next August for the fourth year in a row.
We were reminded just how deeply Mainers care about the lobster industry during our special fundraiser recently with Waldoboro-based LEGO artist, Colby Adolphsen. His custom lobster and lobster boat kits sold out in just 90 minutes… an overwhelming response that reflects both the creativity of our partners and the affection we all have for this fishery.

We also want to thank the many donors who give generously year after year. Most recently, Portland artist Lisa White, whose Commercial Street summer art sales are beloved by locals and tourists alike. Lisa recently mailed a check for $650 to support the MLCA’s mission. Like so many who donate, Lisa could easily put these funds toward her own family’s needs, yet she chooses to invest in protecting Maine’s lobstering heritage. We are humbled and inspired by this kind of kindness.

On the MLA side, we continue to raise funds toward our end-of-year goal and we’re halfway there. These dollars support the critical, behind-the-scenes work that keeps Maine’s lobstering families strong, ensuring that this heritage remains vibrant for generations to come.
As we look toward 2026, we are stronger because of you… our members, supporters, donors, and volunteers. Thank you for believing in this community and for standing with us in this important work. Happy Holidays.
